Al-Qaeda fighters have attacked an airport in Yemen and bombed the facility’s air control tower, according to Yemeni security officials.
The officials say the coordinated attack on the Sayoun airport in the southern province of Hadramawt started from three directions early on Thursday.
The AFP news agency reported that three soldiers had been killed in the attack, quoting an unnamed security official. The information could not be verified by Al Jazeera.
The attack came just hours after security forces arrested a number of suspected fighters in the same town, known for a strong presence of al-Qaeda.
